Visit medieval castles & modern pedestrian streets, try ice fishing & enjoy many more adventures while staying at a family-friendly spa-resort in Vilnius.

About Your Trip

Step back in time as you delve into historical and cultural wonders in the beautiful Baltic State of Lithuania. This is a country that continually captivates with its heritage architecture, spectacular scenery, incredible monuments and much more. With a full-day tour and plenty of free time to check out area highlights on your own, you’re sure to make memories to last a lifetime!

Your fascinating tour begins at one of the most famous attractions in Lithuania — the Trakai Insular Castle. Built on an island in the 15th century, it has served a variety of purposes over the centuries — defensive fortress, residence of Grand Duchy of Lithuania and now, museum, featuring artifacts from Trakai’s rich history. From there, you’ll continue to Kaunas, a city boasting a popular Old Town center. At Kaunas Castle, you can walk around the ruins of the stone walls and towers of the once mighty fortress, then head off to see Kaunas Cathedral, the largest gothic-style church in the country. And the fun doesn’t stop there! You’ll also have a chance to explore the main boulevard Laisves Aleja, or “Freedom Avenue.” This serene pedestrian-friendly street stretches from Old Town for 1 mile (1.6 kilometers) and is lined with cafes, shops and restaurants.

In your leisure time, you can do as much — or as little — as you wish. At your amazing spa-resort, the kids can head to the resort’s aqua pool zone or playground, while adults can use the included discount for pampering services at the spa center. Guests into ice fishing can take advantage of daily 3-hour equipment rental at no extra cost, while golfers have easy access to the resort’s championship course. Want to venture beyond the resort? It’s super easy thanks to the complimentary shuttle to Vilnius city center! Once there, you’ll find its UNESCO-protected historic center is a compact, walkable area with more than 25 churches, including the 18th-century Vilnius Cathedral and the 17th-century Church of St. Casimir with a pink facade. At National Museum of Lithuania, check out the dizzying array of artifacts, and at Hales Market, stroll by vendors selling fresh produce and souvenirs. The nearby Uzupis neighborhood offers a different perspective of the city with its bohemian atmosphere. End the day with a great sunset view from the top of Hill of Three Crosses.

What we love:
• Built in 1358 for defensive purposes, Kaunas Castle became royal residences and then a prison. Legend has it that the castle is haunted by spirits of prisoners held there in the 16th century.
• Vilnius Old Town impresses with its variety of architectural styles, from Gothic and Renaissance to Baroque and Classic, and a perfectly intact medieval layout.
• Grab some complimentary equipment at the resort and head to the lake to try your hand at one of Lithuania’s favorite pastimes: Ice fishing.
• To maximize your enjoyment, download the DreamTrips™ app to access DreamTrips Local — then earn points on dining, entertainment, spa experiences & more at select spots recommended by DreamTrippers just like you!

Destination

Vilnius, the modern-day capital of Lithuania, is in the southeast part of the country. Founded in the 14th century by the Grand Duke of Lithuania, Gediminas, it joined the European Union in 2004. A cosmopolitan city, Vilnius enjoys a lively student population, skyscrapers and a busy nightlife. A walk down the main street, Gediminas Avenue, reveals plenty of shopping and dining venues.

A top attraction is the city’s medieval Old Town district, one of Europe’s largest historical centers. It’s been designated a UNESCO World Heritage site for its well-preserved buildings offering some of the continent’s greatest architectural styles. Cobblestone streets lead to the Neoclassical Vilnius Cathedral, the Gothic Church of St. Anne, the Baroque Church of St. Casimir and the Renaissance Church of St. Michael.
